Why MTX Connect Means Security: The Private Network Story

In our previous post, we mentioned that we’re heading to Barcelona in March for the annual MWC exhibition. We’ll be there to share our expertise as private network experts and help companies build secure connections to their internal networks and the Internet.

Today, let’s talk about what a private network actually is and why it matters so much – not just for companies, but for all travelers – members of the MTX Connect private network club, who rely on us for their internet connectivity anywhere in the world.

Let’s start with a brief journey through network evolution. Remember the early days of local networks? A few computers connected through network cards and physical cables, forming a secure local network where they could share data, completely isolated from the outside world.

As technology moved forward, companies spread across different continents needed to maintain their own secure local networks despite the physical distance. The Internet provided a solution – using specialized equipment and software, engineers created protected pathways through the public Internet, connecting separate local networks into a single secure intranet. It feels as if all computers were still in the same building, connected by cables. Sure, these computers could also access the public Internet, but network engineers and security experts made sure to keep their internal networks safe from outside intrusion.

Then mobile communications arrived. Imagine that now the air itself—all radio frequencies—became invisible wires, extending from mobile operators’ towers all around us. Your mobile phone now acts as the modem, and the SIM card is your key to access the mobile operator’s network. When you’re in your home country, you simply connect with your home SIM card to your local operator, who manages your network access and takes care of your security (more on this later).

But what happens when you’re in a distant country with some random SIM card in a foreign network? Who ensures your security then?

Let’s move away from last-century analogies about modems and wires, and imagine that this wireless network infrastructure is like aerial roads built by mobile operators using their towers. Think of your data as vehicles travelling these invisible highways – carrying all your messages, photos, web browsing, and sensitive information like your location and device details. And, of course, these highways are busy: anyone could potentially be travelling these roads.

You could use your home country’s SIM card and connect through roaming via your home provider. This makes sense in some cases, but many know that roaming bills can be painfully high. Why? Because a mobile operator’s core business lies in their own country, where their towers are located, focusing on maintaining local infrastructure and subscribers rather than people on the move. At MTX Connect, our priority is travellers.

MTX Connect has established direct agreements (subject to stringent regulations) with almost all global mobile operators, gaining the right to use their towers. To continue our road analogy, while we use the operators’ infrastructure, we have our own dedicated secure lane on their aerial highways. On top of this infrastructure, we’ve built our own protected network layer – think of it as having our own private tunnels running through these aerial highways, certified to international security standards.

When you insert an MTX Connect SIM card or download our eSIM, you’re connecting to our private closed network. Even before activating internet packages, you have access to your personal account and technical support wherever you are. Active MTX Connect club members know they also get free messenger access—which can be crucial at times.

Using our aerial road analogy, when you insert an MTX Connect SIM card anywhere in the world, you’re stepping into an armored limousine with a professional driver behind bulletproof glass, ensuring your data’s safety. Through private, guarded tunnels, this limousine instantly transports you directly to our secure data centers in Luxembourg and other strategic locations within MTX Connect’s infrastructure. When you need internet access, MTX Connect’s data centers connect you directly, without intermediaries, to Tier 1 internet traffic or securely to your company’s network through protected channels.

Our mission as private network experts is to ensure secure end-to-end connection from your phone to your destination. Your data and traffic are protected from external interference and leaks, with each piece of information encrypted and secured as if stored in a high-security safe within that armored limousine.

How does our MTX Connect private network differ from other “eSIM providers”?

The vast majority don’t actually provide connectivity or internet service as we do. Using our analogy, they’re merely selling tickets (access cards) to someone else’s transport that will carry your data. What kind of transport will it be? A bus where everyone can overhear each other, or a taxi where you might find yourself with unwanted companions who could pick your pockets? What route will your data take, where will it go, and where might your data fall out over bumps in the road? Neither you nor we know. If something goes wrong, such a shop might at best offer you another ticket for another bus, but they can’t help with what might happen to you along the way.

Of course, the Internet is largely a wild jungle (we’ll definitely share safety rules for these jungles, stay tuned). Your MTX Connect limo driver will take you wherever you want to go, and if you end up in a bad neighborhood—visiting unsafe websites—even a limousine with security might not be enough to protect your data. However, if anything happens, our technical support team acts as your personal concierge service and will do everything possible to help you.

Why do we invest in skilled human technical support instead of chatbots and AI support systems? Because beyond providing travelers with worldwide internet access, our core mission is ensuring the security and confidentiality of your data when you go online anywhere in the world.

This is why we’re trusted by businesses where data protection is critical – we build secure private connections between their employees and company internal networks. And as a member of MTX Connect private network, you get access to the same level of security.

So, shall we send our limousine for you? 🙂

Let’s travel safely with MTX Connect!
