August has already begun and for those who haven’t gone to the seaside yet, it’s a time to think about where to spend such a long-awaited vacation. In the summer compilation from MTX Connect, we have collected up-to-date information on which borders are already open for tourists and the rules of entry have been simplified as much as possible.

Montenegro

Roman Ruins in the Old Town of Budva, Porto Montenegro in Tivat, Town-fortress Kotor with ancient churches and narrow streets, the Durmitor National Park – the list of places to see in Montenegro goes on and on! Montenegrin authorities eased entry restrictions by lifting the quarantine and PCR tests for selected categories of citizens. So, for visitors from these countries, (👉 the full list is here) a PCR test is unnecessary to visit Montenegro.

This group also includes children younger than 5 years, passengers with a certificate of vaccination (the last dose of the vaccine at least 14 days before arrival), tourists with a positive COVID-19 PCR test result issued at least 14 days and at most 90 days before arrival and a recovery certificate specifying that the visitor is not contagious, as well as travelers with a negative antigen test result issued 48 hours before arrival.

Costa Rica

Arenal Volcano, Costa Rica

Surrounded by the Caribbean on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other, Costa Rica is a paradise for hikers and lovers of nature. Borders are open to tourists, without testing or quarantine regulations. However, tourists must acquire mandatory travel insurance that covers lodging in the event of quarantine (at least 2,000 USD) as well as medical expenses due to contracting COVID-19 (minimum 50,000 USD). Remember to fill out the online Health Pass form three days before departure. Effective from 1 August 2021, travel insurance requirement does not apply to passengers with a COVID-19 vaccination certificate showing that they were fully vaccinated at least 14 days before arrival, and passengers younger than 18 years of age.

Cyprus

If you hold an appropriate vaccine certification coming from these countries: the EU, Armenia, Bahrain, Belarus, Canada, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States, you can enter without a PCR test and quarantine. Cyprus implements travel restrictions according to a classification of high, medium, and low-risk countries based on data and criteria communicated every Thursday. Travelers arriving from countries classified as “green” can enter Cyprus without being subject to any isolation or test requirement.

Sweden

Tensta Centrum Metro Station, Stockholm, Sweden

Because of harsh climatic conditions, it is better to plan a visit to Sweden in the summer. Fans of museums and Scandinavian culture should visit the Old Town (Gamla Stan), the Nobel Prize Museum, or the Vasa Museum – a warship from the beginning of the 17th century that sank on her maiden voyage. Because of the variety of exhibits, the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm is one of the best in the world! Experienced travelers and long-distance hikers should not miss the King’s Trail of Sarek National Park – 440 km of unbridled nature in all its wild beauty. The borders of Sweden are already open for tourists from the EU, Great Britain, Andorra, Monaco, Switzerland, as well as some non-European countries. The complete list is published on the official website of the Swedish police. To travel to Sweden, all you need is an antigen test which must be taken within 48 hours before arrival. For neighboring states: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Norway, tests are not required.

Croatia

Just as last year, the Croatian authorities are trying to attract a maximum number of tourists. For residents of the European Union, the rules for entering Croatia have been simplified. Now, even after the first dose of the vaccine, entry between 22 and 42 days after vaccination (depending on the manufacturer – for AstraZeneca between 22 and 84 days) is allowed without tests or quarantine.
For travelers from third countries, it is necessary to provide information if you own real estate in Croatia or proof of paid accommodation during the visit. Non-vaccinated tourists should provide an antigen test no older than 48 hours or a PCR test carried out no later than 72 hours before. Those who have had Coronavirus need a COVID-19 recovery certificate issued at least 11 days and at most 180 days before arrival.

North Macedonia

Ohrid Lake

The most popular place in North Macedonia is the oldest lake in Europe – Ohrid. This ancient Balkan reservoir is protected by UNESCO and has cultural and natural heritage status. Tourists like to bring Ohrid pearls from Macedonia as a souvenir. They are a unique item having no comparables the world over. Culture lovers will appreciate the abundance of medieval and ancient architectural monuments.
North Macedonia has eased entry rules for travelers. The borders are open for tourists, but travelers from India, Brazil, and the African continent will have to self-isolate for two weeks. For others there is no longer a requirement to self-isolate, present a PCR test, or quarantine upon entry. Tourist attractions and public transport continue to operate without changes. Restaurants, cafes, bars, and other facilities are open for outdoor dining only.

Peru

The most mysterious country in South America keeps the secrets of ancient civilizations. Peru takes a special place in the dreams of many a traveler. Who has not dreamed of a trip to the “Lost City of the Incas” – Machu Picchu or visit the Amazon Rainforest and the Cordillera Blanca in Huaraz? The legends about Peruvian cuisine have for a long time ceased to heed borders of the South American continent. The main local delicacy in Peru is guinea pig, and a traditional drink made from black corn – Chicha Morada can be found on almost every street corner. It is better to plan your trip during the Peruvian winter – from May to September. In summer 2021 for a trip to Peru, you will need to present a negative PCR or antigen test issued 72 hours before the flight. This does not apply to children younger than 12. Visitors must complete an “Affidavit of Health and Geolocation Authorization” three days before travel.
